Voluntary Action South Ayrshire offers support to organisations throughout the funding process.
Whether you are new to the challenges of funding or are looking to continue / develop your project or service, VASA is here to help.
Before you apply for funding its worth considering the following key actions:
- Carry out a constitution health check. Many funding applications fail because their governing document is out of date or fails to reflect the aims and objectives of the organisation. VASA can help you review your constitution.
- Research your project need. Ensure that you are aware of existing projects and how yours will differ / add to what is already there. Be prepared to demonstrate and provide evidence that there is a clear need for your project. VASA can help identify similar projects.
- Ensure that your project is well planned, accurately costed and that someone from your organisation is able to communicate effectively with potential funders. VASA can go through your project plan with you to help identify strengths and weaknesses.
- Identify the project beneficiaries eg. Elderly, Youth, Disadvantaged,
Geographic, Community etc
A quick checklist of points to consider might include:
- Read the guidelines thoroughly
- Check eligibility. No matter how good the application, a funding bid will fail if your organisation does not fit the funder’s eligibility criteria
- Demonstrate priorities. Show how your project priorities meet / match those of the funder
- Clarify outcomes. Show what difference your project will make and how you will demonstrate / measure this
- Prepare supporting documentation. Identify appropriate, relevant material
- Ensure all questions are answered, additional material complete
- Review the application prior to submission and retain a copy
